With a strong background in community service and social justice, LMW Board Chair Sharyon Peart said Marcus will be a valuable addition to the skill mix of the Board.

“We are very happy to announce our first Aboriginal Board Delegate to the LMW Board,” Ms Peart said.“Marcus will be able to provide insight into matters relating to government policy, economic development, community relations and general management, as well as provide a connection to Traditional Owners.

“Not only does the delegate role provide greater perspective in the Board’s strategic discussions, but it also strengthens our relationships with Aboriginal communities.”

“This is the first appointment for our region to the Water Corporation of an Independent Aboriginal Delegate and we see the great value it will provide in our decision making.”

Marcus Horwood is a proud Bangerang man born on the Kulin nation. His family is from Wahgunyah, Victoria and has a strong connection to the Murray River. Marcus is very familiar with Aboriginal communities across the country having lived in many places including metropolitan Melbourne, Gippsland and now Mildura. Marcus has recently completed an MBA, is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is also a Justice of the Peace.

“I’m really looking forward to contributing to LMW in this newly created position and I’m looking forward to working closely with the Board and broader community over the next 12 months,” Mr Horwood said.

The appointment supports the Victorian Government’s Water for Victoria policy of increasing opportunities for participation, decision making and resources for Traditional Owners in water management.
