Lower Murray Water (LMW) is a water corporation providing water services to urban and rural customers along the Murray River, from Wemba-Wemba Land (Kerang) through to Latji Latji Land (South Australian border). With just over 200 staff located in and around Mildura, Swan Hill, Kerang and Robinvale, we are responsible for servicing around 80,000 customers.

We are looking for a dependable, team orientated and highly motivated individual to join our Mechanical Maintenance Team as an Apprentice Mechanical Fitter.

As an Apprentice Mechanical Fitter, you will:

  • Learn to fabricate, assemble, and maintain mechanical components and systems.
  • Assist in diagnosing and repairing machinery and equipment under supervision.
  • Gain experience in the use of lathes, mills, and other precision tools.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Work alongside experienced tradespeople and mentors to develop your skills.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop a rewarding career in the Water Industry while undertaking a 4-year apprenticeship term for a Trade Qualification, completing your Certificate III in Engineering (Mechanical Trade).

About the role:

Reporting directly to the Team Leader of Mechanical Maintenance, this ‘hands on’ role will work within a team and assist qualified staff in maintaining and repairing existing machinery and equipment. This includes troubleshooting issues, identifying worn or damaged parts, and performing necessary repairs or replacements of irrigation, water, wastewater, and general building infrastructure, whilst developing skills and knowledge in the mechanical maintenance field.

Key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform planned and unplanned maintenance on all LMW assets.
  • Assist with the monitoring and checking of irrigation, drainage, and sewer pumps.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and plant in a safe, clean, and serviceable condition.
  • Participate in training to maintain and improve skills and competencies.
  • Follow LMW’s Standard Operating Procedures for safety, quality, and environmental protection.
  • Assist in the upgrading of mechanical equipment at existing water, wastewater, and irrigation pumping stations.
  • Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplined team to achieve organisational objectives.

 About you:

We require a self-motivated person who is safety conscious looking to work in a fast-paced team environment. To be successful in this role, you will have the following experience or the enthusiasm to learn:

  • Commitment to completing an apprenticeship and obtaining a Certificate III in Engineering (Mechanical Trade).
  • A genuine interest in mechanical engineering and machinery.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and ability to think critically and analytically.
  • Willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
  • Punctual, reliable, and energetic with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Current Car Driver’s license or willingness to obtain one within 6 months of turning 18 years of age.
  • Willingness to obtain a White Card
  • Compliance with criminal background checks and confirmation of fitness for work.
